Well, it's about time I watched a recommended film. I've had a look back and was going to go with Hereditary and The Death of Stalin but I'd have watched them eventually anyway so I've picked two I know nothing about. I'm going with JoJo Rabbit from RT and Peppermint Candy, or if it's too hard to find, Big Time Adolescence from CC.
Right I've seen..
Dirty God - British drama about a young mum who was the victim of an acid attack. It's not a the most exciting thing you'll see but there was a raw natural feel about it that I like. I'll go 6.5/10
Double Date - Two girls are looking for a virgin to sacrifice, two guys are looking for a date in British horror comedy. Drags a bit at the end but it's got a few decent laughs. 6/10
Driven - An aspiring comedian taxi driver picks up a mysterious passenger who is on a mission to defeat forces of evil or something in car based comic thriller type thing. Bit of strange one. It's got a certain likability about it and as a pilot for tv series or an episode of Twilight Zone type show it would have been quite enjoyable, but over a whole film it gets a bit tiresome I'll go 5.5/10
Luce - Hard to summarise that in a sentence but I'll go with High School based mystery drama type thing. I didn't know where this was going, which is something I always like. I'll go 7.5/10

I got Peppermint Candy for my lad on DVD cause he's into Korean films. Not sure if it's on anything.

Seems easy enough to find, although whether the subtitles are any good remains to be seen....
Booksmart - Two girls realise they're been all work and not enough fun and try to make up for lost time before graduation. I read the director didn't like it being described as a female Superbad, but that's basically what it is, for the first half at least. I liked it 7/10
Harpoon - Three people and a harpoon on a boat and things get tense in comic horror thriller type thing 5.5/10

I saw Coronation Street the other day and I enjoyed their treatment the covid business - The characters wear a mask when walking about on their own outside then when they go into a small indoor public space they remove the mask and hold it crumpled up in their dirty hands while having a close up conversation with a stranger, then put it back on again when they leave. Brilliant Ingrid Goes West - A social media stalker moves to LA in order to befriend an Instagram star in comic drama type thing. T'was alright. 6/10

Enola Holmes - Sherlock Holmes little sister runs away from her "school for ladies" to London and inadvertently gets involved in a murder plot. It's not bad really, just really really bland. Seems like it was more interested in setting itself up as a franchise than anything else. Some good moments though. 6/10
On the TV front i have recently been watching Ted Lasso which is about an American Football coach that comes to England to coach a Premier League Football team despite not knowing anything about the game. I'm 7 episodes in to a 10 episode season and so far it has been brilliant. All the jokes hit, good stories as well. Recommend giving it a try if you can, i think it's on Apple+ TV though.

The Lighthouse. I'm not really sure what was going on so I'm not going to score it. Maybe I'll Google what it was about.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. Biopic with Tom Hanks, was alright. 6/10.
The Raid 2. Indonesian martial arts caper. Seemed to be more about the fighting than having a coherent storyline, great if you like fighting, so so if you're not arsed about it. I'll go with a so so 6/10.
Judy, about Judy Garland, another 6/10.
The Jesus Rolls, pretty crap, 4/10.

Stockholm - Comedy drama based on a true story of a 70s bank robbery that was the origin of 'Stockholm syndrome'. I normally quite like a heist film and there's nothing particularly wrong with it but I couldn't get into that.
If halfway through you find yourself thinking "Is that James Woods? No it can't be, he's much too young. But it looks exactly like James Woods. Yes, but James Woods from years ago, he must have aged a bit in the last 45 years. But it is James Woods' face. Yes, I know but it's not him alright. Maybe they digitally youthed him in some way? Why would they bother doing that, he's not even a main character? Yeah, I guess it's probably not him" then you haven't really been gripped by the action. 5.5/10
It wasn't him, just a look-a-like actor.
Jojo Rabbit - A young boy in nazi Germany (and his imaginary friend Adolf Hitler) discover his mother is keeping a Jewish girl hidden in their house in comic drama type thing. If this hadn't been very good the combining of quite broad comedy with some of the worst events of modern history could have been a total disaster. Fortunately it's really good so completely gets away with it. Liked that a lot. 9/10

Had a bit of a film day yesterday.
I Saw the Devil. Korean vengence, serial killer type of thing. Disturbing but good, 9/10.
The Girl on the Third Floor. Badly acted, very unscary horror. 3/10.
Borat 2. Borat's Borat so you know what you're getting, 7/10.

I watched a good film recently about a Government which took over and under the guise of a "deadly" virus bought in socialism and made everyone dependent on the state.
Oh hang on.........

I quite enjoyed getting paid to be Will Smith for a couple of months.
Less so the last couple of weeks when my part of our school got closed down and didn't pay anyone. Anyway, back open tomorrow, we'll see how long it lasts.

You - fictional series on Netflix about a bloke who stalks women through following and social media to start a relationship. It was a choice of my wife’s and I quite liked the first series. Worth a go with lockdown if you are bored 7/10
The Family - documentary on Netflix about an Australian cult lead by Anne Hamilton-Byrne, 3 parts. She convinced them she was the reincarnation of Jesus and had some properties in Kent where she would brainwash them with LSD and all sorts of other mad events including stealing babies 7.5/10
Calm with horses - Irish gangster movie about an enforcer who is a bit slow. Low budget but really well acted and I enjoyed it. 8/10

I'm less keen on the part where I've continued to work through and paid people to sit on their arses. Season 2 is me paying higher taxes for the rest of my life.

My ideal season 2 would be that this lot of crooks and incompetents packed their bags and fucked off. I'd pay to watch that and buy popcorn too. Yours is more likely though.

Waves, 6/10. I knocked two points off for this finishing for no good reason before any of the plots finished. Richard Jewell. Biopic about a fella suspected of setting a bomb off. 8/10.

Yes we watched Richard Jewell the other night - really good. You can’t really go wrong with any film directed by Clint Eastwood
I am just watching The Queens Gambit on Netflix about a female orphan who plays chess. It sounds terrible and I only gave it a go as I couldn’t find anything else but it is one of the best things I have seen in ages. Great cinematography and film sets as well. Honest - give it a go 9/10
I used to be into chess first as a kid when I captained the school and then I got back into it and me and some mates played in our 20’s for a while. I ordered a set last week and my son is interested so I am teaching him. Really good game

My mrs was watching The Queens Gambit, I was working while she had it on but it looked a lot better than the shit she usually has on.
Fantasy Island. A solid 4/10.

I Saw the Devil. Korean vengeance, serial killer type of thing. Disturbing but good, 9/10. I think I can recommend 'A Bittersweet Life' from the 'I saw the Devil' guy. I can't actually remember it at all but I'm pretty sure it had a similar style about it.... It's not the kind of thing I go in for and have never seen it before but I ended up watching Great British Bake Off the other day. Actually quite enjoyed it. Anyway I've seen.... Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri - A woman pays for three billboards to highlight the unsolved murder of her daughter. Things go from there in darkly comic drama from the guy who did In Bruges, which I assume we all liked. I liked that 8/10 Rabid - A woman gets experimental medical treatment which has bad side effects in body horror type thing from the Soska sisters, who did American Mary which I assume we all liked. I wanted to like it and although there's nothing particularly wrong with it I just couldn't get into it. Shame. 5.5/10 Ready or Not - A bride meets her new in-laws and has to play a traditional game. Things turn sinister in comedy horror type thing. Enjoyed that 7/10

As I have seemingly gone through all the films on Sky and Netflix I decided to give Amazon prime a go. It gives you free next day delivery for gifts and you get to watch the films so had a whole fresh library to choose from - so I naturally decided to watch a load of films I had already seen but hadn’t seen for years 🙄😂
All solid 8 or 9 out of 10’s imo - The Wanderers (a 10 for me and in my top 10 films of all time), Platoon, Once upon a time in America, A Bronx Tale
The wee man - Glasgow crime drama with Martin Compton about gangster Paul Ferris. I really liked it 8.5/10
The Dead Zone - I remember watching this a good 20 years ago. Christopher Walken is a teacher and is involved in a car accident and after he comes out of a coma he has the ability to see past and future events by touching someone’s hand. A Stephen King book. Thought it was excelllent 9/10
