Is predicting England going out against the first good side they meet considered a daring prediction? 🤔
I just dont think Southgate is good enough. England have enough attacking talent to challenge anyone but the defensive minded football will mean there is no chance of success.
He's been in charge for 4 years now but is going into the tournament with the least experienced squad out of the 24 teams
We also look short in centre midfield. We shouldn't have taken Maguire and Henderson if unfit.
Can someone also explain to me why, when he picks 4 right backs in his squad, then he plays a centre back there in the final friendly before the tournament begins?

Dont know when it starts. Dont know half the squad. I think we're playing Scotland at some point. Probably get into it if we reach the knockout stages. Thats how shit its got for me. Southgate really is one dull fuck when it comes to team selection and tactics. Grinding out narrow wins against minnows. Zzzzz

I'm looking forward to it. I don't take much notice of International football through the year but I enjoy a tournament. Now on to the moaning...
There are always so many defenders in England squads. Danny Ings is sat at home while we've got five central defenders, six if you count Rice, and three right backs. Whoever the manager is it's always the same. That and there's always a couple of players who aren't fully fit.
The defence is fairly rubbish but we are unusually well off for young attacking talent so I'd rather we cobbled together whatever back four is fit then get Mount, Foden, Grealish, Rashford, and Kane in the same side and have go. That seems unlikely though so what will actually happen is we'll put out a side full of defensive players, struggle to create anything and limp out with a narrow slightly unlucky defeat in the last 16.
On a slightly related note* how the hell have Germany, Portugal, and France ended up in the same group? The Champions League is basically fixed every year to get all the big boys through to the quarter finals yet here they've somehow let the last three tournament winners go in the same group. Odd.
*England will play one of these if they win their group.

The only saving grace is that the four best placed third placed teams go through to the second round, a bit like in World Cup 86 and 90. So France, Germany and Portugal could all go through. Saying that, Hungary are in that group and have games at home in front of a full crowd (the only host nation to allow capacity crowds) and I wonder might the 12th man make them a banana skin for somebody?
Agreed, fully looking forward to it, we've had enough doom and gloom, nothing like a summer football tournament to brighten things up

I don't watch the Premier League as I find it boring, but that has the knock on effect of not knowing half of who the current England squad are.
I've long thought there should be a rule where all teams in international tournaments have to pick at least 3-4 first XI players from their lower leagues. Imagine if we could watch the odd Forest player wearing the England shirt, or at least some players we recognise from the Championship.
Back in the day this would have helped a player like Steve Bull I reckon.

I don't see many Forest players getting a look in even if we picked a whole squad from the championship. Although we could have had half the team at the '94 World Cup. If we'd got there. No, I won't be doing any bets but I was browsing around and there are some huge prices on the third round of fixtures. Hungary, Slovakia, North Macedonia, and Finland are all 14/1 or more, and depending on first two round results their opponents could already be through so they could well be up against a reserve side with nothing on the game. If I had to predict I'd go with a France Portugal final and Lukaku for top scorer. Long shots Yilmaz 50/1 and Muller 70/1 Who've you gone for? I've gone all in on Lukaku and Depay in my fantasy teams and defences from Italy, Holland, and Belgium to start then probably moving to Spain, Portugal and France. Darkhorse tips Turkey and Denmark.

I included Muller too, partly due to doing well off him in the past and also I notice Germany are lacking a true centre forward seeing as Werner can't hit a barn door.
I've got...
France/Gnabry - 125/1 Portugal/Griezmann - 225/1 France/Muller - 150/1 France/Lukaku - 40/1 Portugal/Ronaldo - 33/1
I also got Italy in the work sweepstake.

I stuck a few quid on a Lukaku and France double in the end. And Muller. Just doing a bit of research for my fantasy football and it becomes obvious how far from having an actual team England are. I think I could have a good stab at predicting the starting eleven for most sides but with England there's only really Pickford, Stones, and Kane I'd be certain of.... I forgot to plug www.fanteam.com before. It's 20 quid a team but there is a million pound prize pot

Shocking incident with Eriksen. I don't understand why the game was restarted so soon, it must have been fairly traumatic for the Danish players.
Glad he's OK, although probably the end of his career, right?

I was about to say that the use of VAR has been spot on so far, quick, no controversies, not disrupting play
Then a 'Premier league' style penalty was just given in the Croatia game 😬

Watching England v Scotland. This feels like the game that underscores the idea that we’re frauds at World Class Football despite all the media bollocks.

It says a lot that England were considered poor and the fans were gutted, whereas the Scottish players were 'outstanding' and fans cheered like they'd won the tournament
I thought it was more, we were poor than anything else. Kane, Sterling and Mount were all well off the pace. The full backs weren't adventurous enough. There is no need for both Rice and Phillips. Why take off Foden when he had been our best player?
Quite a lot of issues to deal with. Of course we'll go through but won't go far in this tournament

Barely noticed it was in use, even the one killjoy moment of Finland's goal being ruled out was dealt with quickly, and then up it pops with a ridiculous interference to remind me just how much I hate it.

Until we improve our coaches and coaching we will be championship level in international football..on top of that our coaches don’t how to pick a team to win a game, their first thought is to not lose so they pick players they think they can rely on for years at international level. Our coaches have done that. A lot of our coaches believe in stats, well look at the stats over the years and they’ll tell you we have played that way, where as that got us? Please learn from the mistakes that others have made if you want to succeed and win trophies have a swagger about yourself have a swagger how your teams play then and only then will you win major trophies. If you are going to rely on not losing the game your players see your weaknesses.

England vs Germany in the last 16 then. Tricky but not impossible, they're not the team they were.
Win that, then we could potentially play Sweden and the Netherlands for a place in the final
Italy, Belgium, France, Portugal and Spain are all on the other half of the draw

England have got more chance against Germany than they would against Portugal or France, and Sweden are the most beatable of the likely teams in the next round so the draw's worked out quite well. I thought Germany have looked pretty average so far, even when beating Portugal their defence looked fairly hopeless. That said I expect we'll be too negative to really test them at the back and it'll be a grim battle though extra time to the inevitable penalty shootout..... I was wondering why VAR was so prominent and so slow in the Italy game tonight when it's not been too bad generally and then the commentator mentioned it was the Premier League guys on duty and it all became clear
