Jesse Lingard has chosen newly-promoted Premier League club Nottingham Forest and will sign a one-year deal on a basic salary of around £80,000-a-week, with bonuses potentially taking that to £120,000-a-week for the former Manchester United midfielder. Lingard, 29, met with Forest manager Steve Cooper this week and chose Forest over West Ham where he spent the second part of the 2020-2021 season on loan. The England international, a free agent since the start of the month, was impressed by the plan for Forest laid out by Cooper and made his decision over the last 24 hours. West Ham also offered their former loanee a competitive salary deal and bonus package. At Forest, Lingard would be able to supplement his basic salary with an extensive bonus scheme that has been agreed between the two parties. The suggestion circulating that he will earn £200,000-a-week would not be feasible for Forest and has not been offered to the player. Nevertheless, Lingard becomes Forest’s highest earning player of all time. The one-year contract gives both parties flexibility. As well as re-establishing his Premier League career after a final season on the margins at United, Lingard’s aim is to get back into Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup finals beginning in November. He hopes to be able to do that in Cooper’s team where he will offer Premier League experience to a squad that has through necessity – been the subject of major changes this summer since winning the Championship play-off final. Should he join Forest, Lingard would be the 11th new addition as a permanent or loan signing at Forest this summer. The changes were long in the planning and began once a revitalised Forest began to climb the Championship table last season. Six first teamers from last season’s promotion side were at the club on loan and as well as their departures, Forest have also lost Lewis Grabban, with whom they could not agree a deal, and goalkeeper Brice Samba. While the changes at Forest are extensive, there was no alternative to rebuilding the squad given those leaving and the recruitment plans have been in place for some time. There are no plans to sign the Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis. Great business I think, won't be lumbered with him if we go down, has to work his arse off to get anywhere near England set up

Either way this season goes you have to be happy with how the club have made a good effort.

Either way this season goes you have to be happy with how the club have made a good effort. Compare this with the decimation of the 1997 team when we were last promoted. Bringing in Lingard & Niakhate vs selling off Stone & Campbell. Marinakis is proving good to his word. We’re really going for it.

I think Cooper has this one wrong. I still haven’t seen a single thing where he has said he is happy to sign for us and already seems like he thinks he is doing us a favour. It won’t work out, he is a prima dona mercenarie and his attitude will suck
Also Awoniyi won’t get 10 goals this season as he is a Jason Lee turnout
I have a dodgy feeling about Cooper this year and note he hasn’t signed a new deal himself

I get a nagging feeling that a lot of this is the bubbles nippers influence. We'll see. Lingard is a prick though.

On the other hand it is a signing of intent and might help attract Cornet/ Dennis and any others through the door. I’m not Lingards biggest fan either but he is a big upgrade on Zinkernagel. Also, if most his pay is based of performance related stats like us staying up then he will have to earn the big bucks they mention.

We are now 6/5 favorites to land MGW

We are now 6/5 favorites to land MGW Where will we play MGW now that we have signed Lingard? Both are very similar players, and unless Cooper ditches his two defensive midfielders, or move to a back 4, there'll be no room for both of them in the starting XI. Same applies to O'Brien. If he does keep his two defensive midfielder formation, we could well be starting our first game in 2 weeks time with Colback and Yates in the heart of our midfield. with Lingard and Johnno in front of them, and a striker who's showed nothing in pre season. If we are to make one more signing before the season starts, it has to be a quality defensive midfielder.

Got to be a record for the forum - 4 pages on one transfer window alone. Back in the day it'd be 16 or 20 pages.

He'd be back up to Lingard, and wouldn't want to sign to be a bench warmer. Not a good idea signing Dennis. We'd lose both strikers for a month for the African Cup of Nations.

Lingard not played a competitive game yet but already getting called names. It is nearly a whole new team not one player although if the signing of Lingard can attract other big names then can only be good.

It's in June/July next year. Dennis would be a good signing but Awoniyi will come good. Just needs time to settle. Plays like Kanu in his highlights and he's a good lad.

Said by who?
Ramsey's agent or BarryBigDong84 off twitter?
I don't see where he'd fit in at all. Although it'll be mostly in the treatment room I guess....

Orel Mangala fee agreed in principle. Likely to be the next through the door. 24yrs old and hopefully another piece to the jigsaw. Cornet would be another good signing and then another striker.

I see we are interested in Alex Moreno. Not too sure on this one of true 29 years old going on 30 and supposedly real betis want £17m for him. I've heard his name across Europe for a good few years but really shouldn't we be looking at a cheaper option because it's to bridge the gap while Omar Richards is injured isn't it?
Mangala sounds like a piece or sturdy business
Cornet supposedly wants to play in Europe, but no European team on English shores especially sounds like they are interested. Would again be decent business and at 25 would be a good signing with resale value for the future. Think we may be wise to stump up the cash on that one.
Ramsey- if the world hasn't fallen apart in terms of everyone's opinion on finances for lingards deal, then God knows what would happen if we signed Ramsey. Not clued up with him over the past couple years apart from seeing him the odd time for Wales? Is he completely past it? He seems to still have class but no way should we be signing him if it's anywhere near like an increased lingard finances situation, which it is bound to be.

Ramsay story seems to be gathering some pace, hardly played for Rangers last season due to injuries. Suppose we need to wait and see.
