Dennis officially signed which is great news. Is it really? 🤔 Just going by his stats he’s had one half decent season for a team who were relegated and we’ve paid the sort of fee that some top level European players go for. I imagine he can make a contribution to this season’s efforts but the transfer fee seems massively inflated. We surely don’t have a bottomless pit of money and I can’t help but think £20m could have bought two or three better players. Can see both sides of argument, but as Darren Fletcher was saying on Garibaldi red podcast, in the prem you have to pay prem transfer fees for decent players. 3 players for £20m might not necessarily be prem level. Personally I think he is an exciting prospect and just what we need in addition to had strength to that front 3, great ball carrier, direct, fast, agile and looks like he can finish and create for others. Plenty of years ahead of him too.

Forest need to pay these sorts of fees, no choice as we are against time. I think the club have done extremely well in signing talented players in pre-season. Average age 25 maybe? It’s about building a future at the club with young players with bright prospects. United seem to be where we were in looking to sign over the hill players for half the price and I know which approach I prefer.
Nothing guarantees survival but I’m hopeful this squad can have a good go.

SSN reporting we are closing in on Lyon star Houssem Aouar. He really would be a statement signing, attacking playmaker. Looks like he is the Morgan Gibbs- white alternative, very good technical player and can make something out of nothing. He has entered the last year of his contract so should be able to get him for a decent fee compared to Gibbs white. In the past has been called 'incredible' by guardiola. At 24 he still has loads of potential.

Joe Lolley has officially left for an Aussie side.
Also Man Utd have apparently finally decided to put James Garner up for sale. Estimates of £15m - £20m and us and Spurs interested.

This might be unpopular but I really don't think we need to go out and spend £15m on James garner anymore- especially if we bring in Houssem Aouar. I don't see James garner getting a game. If we go off last season's performances Lewis O'Brien was a more consistent performer and offered more in terms of assists and goals to Huddersfield and is around the same age bracket at 23, and we signed him for £5m ( fair enough we had the attraction of giving prem league football) but garner doesn't get in over O'Brien for me, nor does he get in over Yates. Early impressions are also that he doesn't get in over mangala and he certainly won't get in over Aouar. He would be good to have in the matchday squad and gives us further strength in depth and no doubt has potential but i don't think the price being banded is good business for him anymore with this new look squad that we have. Man u are in dire straights and I hope if we do make a move for him we pull their pants down for him as he clearly wants out because they are in disarray and he doesn't look like he will get many meaningful minutes.

I agree. They're having a laugh at £14m and it doesn't look good for Garner that he jumps ship now having opted to stay. Good luck to the lad but I think we move on. Aouar on the other hand looks freakin' awesome.... a major upgrade on Lingard and can play deeper and tackle back too. He would be stellar in the PL... though I can't see why he'd want to join us tbf.

I would have said the same about him not wanting to join us, never in my wildest imagination would I have thought he would be an option for us but now I believe anything is possible. But players want to join us. Dennis is an exciting transfer, kouyate could play a big role this season when game management is needed and adds some steel and leadership in the middle. Maupay I think is a solid signing too. Aouar seems to be able to play both the defensive side of the game slowing it down and being calm on the ball winning free kicks, and can also play the offensive side with key passes that will unlock the defence and is dangerous in and around the box. If we could get garner for say £10m then fair enough, he would definitely be part of the matchday squad, he has plenty of potential that will come on with cooper and will only rise in value.

Not so sure about Garner myself now. He seemed to drop off quite a bit as we got towards the end of the season. Dead balls missing their mark and he seemed to be getting shoved off the ball a lot.

I'll say it again, the only things linking us to Garner are the fans and the media. He is most definately not on the club's radar. The midfielders we are bringing in are light years ahead of him in quality.
Let it go.

Any news on outgoings?
I can see Mighten getting a loan and Cafu moving on. It'll be hard to get Taylor and Arter off the wage bill considering the wedge they're both on

Nottingham Post running a story we've signed Gustavo Scarpa on a pre-contract to join in January on a free. Who? Yeah, so he's a 28 year old Brazilian Attacking Midfielder, plays for Palmieras and has one international cap to his name.

I read this a couple of months ago even before the window I opened I think, something about a pre contract deal. Wasn't sure whether it was legit. If it is, not sure how it works out now, not heard of him, don't know anything about him and don't know how he fits in at all now we have all these signings... Seems like a strange one given his age too, anyway if it is legit give everyone their chance

Reports of crystal palace trying to muscle in on houses Aouar. Apparently we have agreed terms with the individual but not met the transfer fee believed to be around €15m. With viera being palace manager and both of them being french midfielders I duno what to make of it... it's either lazy journalism or there could be some truth. If we are bartering over a couple of €m then I say just give it them.

If it's between GW for £44m or Auoar for c£15m... the Frenchman is the better player right now by some margin.

Reports are that Lyon kept moving the goalposts for how much they wanted for Aouar after we had met asking prices so we pulled out.
