Where does he fit in? Not sure really what to make of this. Got a good mate that is a Newcastle fan, he let me know earlier and now being banded about on SSN etc. Says he has been injured most of season. But when Howe cam in and shuffled the pack Shelvey was one of fittest players out the lot. Still can ping ridiculous passes with very good vision and obviously adds some bite in the middle. Wouldn't necessarily say he is going to be a starter every week and hopefully he stays away from injury but could see him playing an important role in staying up, in the dressing room, on the training pitch and on matchday winning the ball and pinging some very nice passes quickly to our create players could for quite nicely? I see it as the replacement for colback with a better passing range, a bit more comfortable a few yards higher up the pitch and couple years younger, plenty prem experience top Good point and as much as I like Colback he's one of the weaker squad members. Here's how the squad is shaping up. Looks like Marinkas is going all in and we're lining up replacements for Cook, O'Brien, Colback and Dennis before the window closes. Cant fault our ambition Here's how the squad is shaping up: 1.Hendo 2.Hennesey 3.Smith/Navas? 4.Williams 5.Aurier 6.Mckenna 7.(Cook)/Felipe?/Tah? 8.Worrall 9.Boly 10.Niakhate 11.Richards/(Toffolo) 12.Lodi 13.(Colback)/(O'Brien)/Shelvey? 14.Danilo 15.Mangala 16.Frueler 17.Yates 18.Scarpa 19.Surridge 20.Gibbs-White 21.Lingard 22.Johno 23.Awonyi 24.Wood 25.(Dennis)/Saint Maximin? If we could sign 2 of the ? who would you take?

At the moment it sounds like the following will happen
In Keylar Navas (PSG) Felipe (Atletico Madrid) and Shelvey (Newcastle)
Out Toffolo (Anderlecht) O'Brien (WBA) Hwang (Chicago Fire)
Not hugely keen on Shelvey, I think he's a decent footballer on his day, but if he's currently injured then how much is he going to add to the squad

My concern about Navas, Felipe and Jonjo is lack of playing time this year

Tah and Saint-Maximin would be the two to go with surely? Not sure I'd bother the rest. I'd be very surprised if Newcastle let S&M go now though. (I assume that's his nickname).
Disappointing to see O'Brien on the way out, and swapping him for Shelvey seems like a big downgrade.

Saint maximin would be up there as one of the signings of the season. That guy is phenomenal at carrying the ball with pace and he ain't too shabby at finishing too. Him on left Gibbs white as false 9 and johno on right would be crazy good for us.
Even with Gordon moving to Newcastle I can't see maximin being allowed to leave and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want to either but that would be an astonishing coup for us.
Jonathan Tah would be another incredible signing I believe. Known about this lad for a few years, can't believe he is still only 26. Those 2 signings though would probably cost us around £50-£60m.
Shelvey is out of contract in the summer so would be relatively cheap. Has just turned 30 this weekend so still has a few seasons ahead of him if he's fit.
Hear this Felipe is a decent player too but he is 33 so would this just be a short deal to add a bit of experience in the back 4 for the his season? Again has 6 months left on contract so transfer fee shouldn't be too much.
I thought cooper might want to go for someone like Japhet Tanganga from spurs. Young English right back/ centre back. Powerful, quick. Not sure if cooper has worked with him before in the England youth set up? Saw he was in the process of trying to work out a move to AC Milan in summer but spurs wouldn't allow him to leave on loan without a purchase fee.
Would be a good player to lock down for his prime years?
As for Navas... Well he must have one of the best highlight reels of a goalkeeper ever. I know he has been very very good in the past but is he still a very good keeper. Just watched PSG and forgot donnarumma was in net for them so there is no way Navas is getting a look in. Strange signing if hendo is back within the next couple weeks. Would really like he do here long term as he will only start going up the pecking order of England's keepers I believe and will keep increase/ keep his value for a number of years. We really do need to start thinking about a keeper for the long term though as if Henderson doesn't stay and we had Navas on short term we are left with Smith and horvath when he returns.

Seen a few rumours regarding Yates and his "illness". Sounds like he may be out for longer than expected.

So Shelvey undergoing his medical.
SSN just reported that us and Bayer Leverkusen have been battling to sign atletico madrid centre back Felipe and that we now are in the driving seat and following talks this evening he is expected to fly to UK for personal terms and medical tomorrow. 33 years old 6 months left on contract, plenty of champs league experience.
Steve cook may be on his way out as a result. O'Brien looks like going either West brom or sheff u on loan. Toffolo to Anderlecht.

Rumours of an 18 year old Brazilian striker signing from Santos. Sorry if I missed this above. Could be an exciting buy.

Yeah potential. Angelo Gabriel. I would imagine that's quite a job to do on deadline day coming from Brazil etc.
Tell you what, we like buying players in pairs/ players they have relationships with don't we and I think it's quite a smart way of doing it to bed them in quick...
O'Brien/ toffolo Wood/ Shelvey Hendo/ lingard Scarpa/ Danilo ( to some extent Lodi) MGW/ Boly

Forest 'make offer' for Brenner
From Sky Sports
Nottingham Forest have submitted an offer to sign FC Cincinnati striker Brenner, according to MLSsoccer.com. Talks between the clubs are ongoing with Brenner reportedly training by himself over the last couple of days in order to minimise the distractions for the MLS club. The 23-year-old Brazilian delivered 18 goals and six assists in 29 games during his second season with FC Cinicinnati in 2022. Brenner scored eight goals and two assists in 33 matches in his debut campaign in 2021.

I hope that he's a Cooper signing because from where I sit, he's just another Worrall, McKenna or Cook where they've a turning circle of a whale tanker. Boly seems to be blending in and hopefully Niakhate might be back soon but the above three are too weak for me. Felipe has good experience etc and hopefully Cooper can get a tune out of him.

I thought the same.. experienced but not a lot of pace to complement the others. I see we're in for Demiral from Atalanta too if the papers are to be believed. Both upgrades I guess.

I saw that about Demiral yeah. 24 so would be more like it in my eyes but I wouldn't question what the club are doing IF Cooper has had input.

I will be happy once today is over - this is a typical Forest Transfer Window, where well though out acquisitions are made at the start of the window and panic desperation buys are made at the end. The number of random players we've been linked with in the past week has been depressing.
The Navas signing doesn't really make much sense if Henderson is only going to miss a handful of games. We're going to be paying a lot of money for one keeper to sit on the bench with no long term benefit to us. It would surely make more sense to use this as an opportunity to bring in a younger goalkeeper with a view to making them #1 once Henderson's loan finishes e.g. Livakovic.
I'd still like another mobile attacker but doesn't seem to be happening.

Breaking news fellas.
All SSN
Blackburn have agreed a deal of a loan for Lewis O'Brien with a £10m obligation to buy if Blackburn get promoted to the prem.
Also Steve cook could go to them.
Also apparently if we don't get a keeper from PSG whether that is Navas or possibly Sergio Rico Newcastle are holding Karl darlow for us to sign him before they agree for him to go elsewhere
