The club haven't shown any sense of sentiment for the past 10 years... I can kind of tolerate that if it means the club progresses, but why treat player's like garbage if there is no benefit to the club?
It would have been better for both Cook and Forest, if there was a frank and open discussion about his role, and we told him he wouldn't be in the 25 man squad.
That way, we could have perhaps loaned him out and kept him on good terms - If we do go down then hes exactly the type of character we would want back in the championship.
He's now not going to play football again this season, probably miserable, and the club is shelling out 25/30k a week for that - what is the benefit for either party?

Cook knew we were in for another centre back and that his squad number was at risk. We didn't block his transfer, it was his decision from what I've heard. If I was paid £25k a week for putting my feet up I'm not sure I'd be complaining!
In other news I see Niakhate is back training again. Could we switch back to a 5-3-2? 4-3-3 limits our options in those central midfield positions to defensive minded players (Freuler, Yates, Mangala, Danilo, Kanoute) and limits our wingbacks. With a 5-3-2 could we slip MGW, Scarpa or even Lingard into the central 3 and play Jonno as a striker off Awonyi or Wood? Anyhow good to have options finally.

How do you know these discussions didn't take place? He may well be happy to be around not playing. Maybe he has plans to go into management and wants to be around as a senior pro? You're getting upset over a lot of assumptions here.

A good pal of mine who is a big Newcastle fan has sent me a screenshot ( don't know how to put it on here) According to twitter the '3 game clause' for Chris woods loan deal has been triggered and forest have an obligation to pay £15m for him. Apparently also hearing there has been a £4m loan fee paid... Can't tell you if it's 100% true but even if he bangs a few goals in for us behind now and the end of the season I think we have had our pants well and truly pulled down on this one, which is strange because we have generally done shrewd business.

It’s being reported in a few reliable sources as official. £15m for a 31 year old who’s been scoring about twice every 18 games, is this a bad joke? 🙁

Tbf we signed him on the last day of the window because we ran out of options. We were only in for loans cos of FFP, and Awoniyi had just crocked his groin.
Faced with a choice between Surridge (1 in 15) and Wood (1 in 3 over four PL seasons for Burnley) it was the right call. He'll score goals once we adapt to playing with a target man.

Surely he wasn’t the only available target man if we had £15m to splash?

From what we have seen from Wood so far, I'd say it's among the worst transfer business ever conducted by the club.
