Forest boss Evangelist Marinakis has released a statement...
To end the speculation about Steve Cooper being sacked! Mr Marinakis is rallying the troops for everyone to come together and help try and push us over the line... Lovely stuff.
Read official statement below 👇
No one denies that our Club is in a difficult position in the Premier League, but we wish to end the speculation and the false and disruptive reporting in the media to confirm that Steve Cooper remains our manager at Nottingham Forest.
“We have all been disappointed with recent performances and it is very clear that a lot of hard work needs to be done to address this urgently. Results and performances must improve immediately.
“Now is the time for everyone connected with our club, from us as owners, to the board, our supporters, backroom staff, coaches and players - to come together and fight to secure our status in the Premier League.
“There can be no time for distractions, rumours and speculation. There is only time for hard work, determination, a commitment from Steve and the players to getting the results we need and, of course, the continued magnificent support of the fans of Nottingham Forest.”
Evangelos Marinakis

Whether you want Cooper to go or not, it’s great to see a Chairman stick by his manager when the going gets tough. Huge decision for Marianakis to make, particularly having spent the 100s millions to get us here, and all too easy to sack after last night. I don’t feel there is enough of the season left to get someone in to make a difference (only games really left to be judged on are Brentford, Brighton, Southampton and Villa).

Agree mate, I just hope now he doesn't pull the trigger in a couple more games. I hope that's that regardless of whether we go down or stay up. I hope we stay up course I do. But part of me would look forward to cooper being at the helm with hopefully the majority of the squad that we have right now in the championship ( obviously there is no guarantee that will happen and we all know the championship can be a dangerous league to go back into) but if we could keep the group together like Fulham did, then maybe we could come back to the prem stronger and hot it hard, as many of us realise that promotion to the prem was way before it's time

Solid statement. It was either back or sack. Don't know if it's the right call but the pressure is costing us so I'm glad the speculation is over.
Going down wouldn't be the end of the road anyway. Keep a solid core, get rid of the failed signings. Jonno, Felipe, Navas, Lodi, Aurier would probably all leave. Maybe MGW too. Still leaves us in a far better place than 12 months ago.

It's been a bit hit and miss this season in terms of expectations for me. Not cos things have gone badly ( although that is bound to subconsciously contribute) but it's like if you aren't in the top 6 then you don't matter. Everyday talksport and other media outlets just try and churn as much out as possible repeating the same stories about the top 4/6 teams. I do like the wacky nature of the championship and you can go into every game with a chance of winning it. Don't get me wrong I don't want us to go down but there is still something about the championship I like. This sums up my slight falling short of expectations this season... We were playing on Monday night football earlier in the season, can't remember what game, might have been when we got pumped 4-0 of Leicester. So I settled down for all the pre-match coverage. I think the pre match coverage was for about 1 hour 15 mins or so. Neville and carragher spent the first 45 mins of the programme ( and we were the only fixture that evening) analysing Liverpool and man city's results that happened 2 days prior. Not just talking about it, but getting them daft iPads and moving around the players that are shown as dots and pulling apart every attack and goal that they scored in minute detail. Half an hour was spent talking about the actual game we had tubed in to watch tonight... In the championship you had putting and guests examining the fixture that you were watching and actually showing some interest and passion about it. Like I say I'm not wishing for us to go down but the championship does feel a little more 'wholesome'

Whatever Cooper's future, it amazes me how much the media are baying for the next manager to be sacked. Fair play to Marinakis and very refreshing for an owner to stand by the manager.

It's a no brainer keeping Cooper. He'll take us down for sure, he just hasn't got the tactical nous for the Prem, but with the run of games coming up, the owner knows that no one coming in for the last 9 games would save us from the drop. Plus, Coops has 3.5 years of a £5m+ a year contract remaining. It would cost a fortune to sack him, and we'd still probably go down anyway. He's proven himself in the Championship and would be the best man to take us straight back up. If that does happen, give him 10 or 15 games back in the Prem, and if we're in the bottom 3 then sack him. In my opinion he should have been sacked after the 4-0 loss to West Ham. 8 games without a win and just 3 pts in those 8 games, and we'll be no wins in 12 by the time we play Southampton. I get the love for Coops from the fans, but there is no room for sentiment in football. If Chris Hughton was still in charge he'd be getting slaughtered by the fans for the tactics, selections, and performances, but Cooper gets away with it? Very strange.

I don't know - looking at the squad, if we lose MGW and Johnson, as well as the big money signings then it feels to me like we've stood still. We could conceivably line up with; Horvath - Williams McKenna Worrall Richards - Yates O'Brien Shelvey - Bowler Surridge Dennis. It would be competitive but not an outstanding team. The recruitment this season has just been a disaster with only 4 or 5 of the players brought in actually delivering. You'd hope the club would learn a lesson but no doubt we will see another 15+ random signings through the door regardless of what division we're in.

"Results and performances must improve immediately".
If ever a sentence said "regardless of backing the manager, l also said this".

Well, looks like we're going down then. The main worry for me is we do a desperate panic sacking, go down anyway, and start next season worse off than if we'd just stuck with Cooper.
If it were up to me I'd stick it out with Cooper, accept relegation as an almost inevitable outcome of getting promoted in the manner we did, and prepare to go again next year. Although if it were up to me I wouldn't have spent 150 million on a 35 man squad....

I’d maybe also suggest someone buys Marianakis Junior a copy whatever passes for Championship Manager these days if he wants to play at running a team and not spunk daddy’s money against the wall and leave Cooper trying to polish the turd he’s created.
