Nixon says we are 'actively in pursuit' of Jack colback after he has been released and available on a free. Bring him back or not? Thoughts?

Would be handy seeing as Sow spends most of the time injured.

Assuming we don't get promoted, then given the impact that Covid will have, then I expect we will only see a summer of restraint.
By my count we have 25 pros as well as the 20+ players in the U23 squad on our books.
Our first priority should be to get rid of players not in the manager's plans or those who might not have a future at the club - Pantillimon, Adomah, Hefele, Benalouane, Clough and possibly Walker.
Then I imagine we may also need to balance the books by selling Carvalho and Cash.
Once thats done then we will still probably be relying largely on loans and freebies!
As for Colback, I really liked him when we was here, as long as the wages aren't ridiculous and its not too long a contact then it should be a good option.

Colback possibly if we don't go up. If we do manage somehow to get promoted, stay well clear. He ain't good enough for top flight.

Providing he's fully recovered from his cruciate injury and his wages are not out of kilter with our wage structure this would be a no brainer . I do know that his family are living in West Bridgford , kids at school there and he enjoyed his loan spell with us .. He would be the ideal replacement for Ben Watson given that Ben is now 34 ....

Depends on the division. If we somehow go up we'll basically need a whole new side unless we're planning on breaking the Sheep's record of 11 points. It'd be embarrassing but at least we'd come down with the money to storm the league.
If we stay in the Championship we need to make a few additions but as has been said, players need to leave first. Having 30+ senior pros on the books is obscene, particularly when at least 2/3 of them are shit.

Haven't we got a dozen players out of contract? That would be good.
I saw Dawson got another year, doesn't really make sense.
If we go up we'll need at least eight first choice players, if we stay down we'll need at least four. The trouble with us is wherever we end up we'll go with a scattergun approach with loads of players who are no better than what we have and so wasting a massive chunk of cash.

Forest have proven time and time again that they prioritise quantity over quality. With the almost certain drop in income next season we need a radical approach to signing crippled 30-year olds from Premier League relegation fodder.

Get rid - Pantilimon, Steele, Bong, Hefele, Benalouane, Bridcutt, Yates, Carvalho, Adomah, Clough, Walker End of loan - Bostock, Semedo, Diakhaby
Bring in a ball playing centre back, left back, Box to box midfielder, pacey winger and a second striker

Oliver Skipp linked with 6 or 7 clubs, including Forest, on loan. Yes please.

Bit too high profile for my tastes.
Give me a European B-Team player any day of the week.

Haha, when was the last time we had a half decent loan signing? Kris Boyd? Nicky Shorey?
Not hopeful we'll get it right this year.

For the last decade our loan signing have been even worse than the permanent signings, which you'd think would be almost impossible.
I wonder if anyone at Forest ever asks whoever the hell's responsible for loan signing "Why didn't we get him?" about the numerous successful signings at other clubs every season. Just last year Villa went up with Abraham, Mings, and Taunzebe on loan, Sheff Utd had Norwood, Derby had Tomori, Mount, and Wilson, West Brom had Barnes, Holgate, and Gayle. This season Leeds have had Jack Harrison and Ben White playing over 90 games between them. Forest would struggle to get 90 appearances from our last 30 loans combined.
Why is everyone else bringing in young talented players who will be regulars in the Premier League for years to come while Forest are just bringing in random bodies whose clubs are just happy to get them off the wage bill for a bit. Just watching the play off games and Rhian Brewster is obviously a good player so why were (then) midtable Swansea able to bring in an England 21 International from Liverpool while promotion chasing Forest went for some 30 year old journeyman from France and some dope from Huddersfield reserves. Embarrassing.

Often wondered the same thing myself. I expect it’s because we don’t have good relations with a lot of these clubs. Otherwise we can’t guarantee them enough playing time which is surprising given the number of decent players we have at our disposal.
Forest also have an extraordinary amount of injuries to players each season. Almost cursed!

Embarrassing. Answering your question to Brewster isn't it something to do with Steve cooper having worked in the England youth set up to some extent? Think he also brought in a young English lad called Marc guehi too. I think it is down to relations. You thought marinakis might have had an impact on this replacing fawaz but our track record shows we bring in loans and they either don't perform or aren't seen in the first team. You would have thought lamouchis rep in the game might earn him some credibility but it looks more likely that's within Europe than England. Still I totally agree we sign some cross onoan and we need to break the mould of signing shite. The whole point of a loan is bringing someone in better than you have that can't get in a much better team than yours. If we don't do that like all the other clubs up there then we won't get success

Would love to have seen Skipp come in alongside Troy Parrot from Spurs on loan, but seems Milwall have landed Parrot on a season long loan...good business that for them.

In fairness, it isn't always easy to compete domestically e.g. Villa, Swansea and West Brom had parachute payments money, Derby had connections through Lampard. Leeds had the pull of Biesla.
But even so, it has been poor. If we just concentrated on two really good loans each year rather than 6 ordinary ones, then we'd be in much better shape.
Here is my take on the loanees over the last 5 years
Feel free to disagree but half of them added nothing. At least 10m pissed down the drain in wages when youth players could have been given a chance
Success - Colback, Dowell, Gardner, Moderate Success - Tomlin, Oliveria, Kasami, Wague Mediocre - Bostock, Semedo, Janko, Mendes, Trotter, O'Grady, Jokic Poor - Pele, Dias, McCormack, Byram (injured), Pereira, Goncalves, Williams Abject Disaster - Mir, Bonatini, Muric, Diakhaby, Macheda, Ebecilico, Dumitru, Teixeira, Tshibola
