Isn't Shelvey now a 1st team squad member, he's come all the way through every age of the youth structure, surely he must have enough about him for the club not to have to bring in another unknown keeper
Recruitment started well but it feels like it's going back to the same shit of random oveaseas signings.
I don't really rate Smith, so this guy could be an upgrade - but also begs the question why did we give Smith another contract
Guess you need 3 keepers though? One playing, one on bench one spare/ out on loan with emergency recall?
If you had 2 and one got a long injury you would be fucked? Samba had a couple injuries last year?
I know it's conventional wisdom to have three first team keepers but can you remember the last time we had our 1st and 2nd choice goalkeepers injured at the same time?
If that did happen then why not pick someone from the U23 team? They are not kids. Jordan Wright is 21. What I don't understand is if the club really has no faith in him coming into the side in the event of a freak injury crisis, then what is he doing at the club.
Think the more questionable thing is Smith's new deal. Surely would have been more sense to have samba, diallo then shelvey. Smith won't ever get a look in. Thanks for the performance against Ipswich that kept us up but can't say I remember anything else that he's done to be honest. Diallo brings a higher level of game time, international experience etc.
Cyrus Christie looks like being out 9th summer signing 🙄
I am so fed up with this club it is fucking unbelievable - we have signed practically a new team and other than Taylor (who won’t play anyway as we only play one striker until we are losing with 10 to go) and Freeman (on loan) not one of them will be worth a wank
I can’t wait to see the back of EM and it will happen one day but for now I can’t stand watching Lamouche’s football
Just checked and of those 61, 37 don't play for us any more. So they've either been moved on quickly at massive expense (or profit if we're fiddling FFP) or their loan moves were so unsuccessful we decided not to take them on permanently.
Of the 24 that still remain at the club you have obviously all of the players that we've signed this summer that haven't made an impact yet and also the likes of Hefele, Clough and Bong who seem absolutely nowhere near the first team.
So really the point is that very few of our signings ever turn out to be decent enough to have an extended first team run.
